Let me tell you how it was. You have to trust me. Don’t listen to all of those people. They just love any drama they can be a part of. They love to talk. They hate anyone who’s luckier than they are. We’re still the lucky ones. They want to be a part of our lives in a way they could never be. Don’t you see? It’s kind of sick really, I never even talk to most of these people anymore and the moment a pack of lies hits their ears they jump all over it, over me, over us.
How can you even question me? What have I ever done to deserve this mistrust? You know we’re the best thing around. We’re the only ones who’ve made it as a couple through all these years. Everyone else that used to be couples fell apart one by one, until we were the only ones left, and that was years ago. Our friends always tell me how were so good together, how they all hope they could have what we have. Everyone looks up to us. Without us, there’s no hope for anyone anymore, people won’t believe.
Basically, we’re the only thing holding everyone together. They need us. Everyone has such hope for us, which is really just externalized hope for themselves. They love us. Don’t you see? You can’t let little things— little lies get to you.
Just look into my eyes and see for yourself. I’m still here, I’m still yours. Don’t let everyone tear us apart; they’re just looking down on us, trying to bring us down. You can’t listen to everyone. Everyone lies.

holler!
have you ever broken up with someone? take a moment and think back on that moment right before it happened. they weren't gone yet - you had a chance at fixing it. was it a good chance? that doesn't matter. it's a chance.
for me, i am not NEARLY as composed and logical when fighting to save a relationship as the narrator is. i think you need to add in a lot more emotion - not logic, but feeling. that's the difference between creative writers and scientists.
it did make me curious what the guy did, though. (and i'm just assuming it's male because men aren't that good at expressing their emotions.) could you put in little hints, little words that lead the reader to assume one thing or another happened? it could be really juicy, too...
and the lies thing. you could work that out a little more - be more specific. who lied to her? why? who is that person in relationship to their relationship? maybe both of them are lying?
this could turn out really neat. thanks!!
